Hello, my name is Isa, and I am Honey's owner. Honey has stump pyometra.

You have probably seen her with me on campus if you go to UMass Amherst. If you've had the chance to meet her, then you know the joy she is to be around. For ten years, she has been my best friend, but I'm afraid our time together is soon to end, unless she receives life-saving surgery.

Last night (04/03), I took her out on a walk as usual. She appeared to be just fine. It was too dark for me to realize that something had gone terribly wrong.

To keep it short, her bottom was covered in blood.

Today (04/04), we brought her to urgent care. The vet suspected it was stump pyometra.

Pyometra is a bacterial infection in the uterus due to hormonal changes in intact females. In rarer cases, spayed females, like my dog, can get something called stump pyometra, which happens when remnants of reproductive tissue become infected.

Pyometra is fatal if left untreated. The body can go into septic shock, or the uterus can rupture, spreading the infection into the abdomen.

She was given an ultrasound, and a structure filled with fluid was found in her abdomen.

We were given an invoice for her treatment.

Nine-thousand dollars...

We simply cannot afford this. We had to pay $318 just for the clinic to send her home with antibiotics.

I am heartbroken. She is such a lively, intelligent little dog. It isn't her time to go yet.

The clock is ticking, and now we have to decide whether to have her euthanized or to surrender her to a shelter (which would likely euthanize her too).

Please help us so that we do not have to make this decision.
