Help Sylvia Beat Cancer

Hello, my name is Jennifer and I am creating this gofundme on behalf of my amazing sister Sylvia. Those of you who know my family, know that cancer has hit us multiple times. First, my mom was diagnosed in 2008 with stage 4 breast cancer that metastasized then my oldest sister in 2009 with stage 2. Now despite all our best efforts to prevent it, my sister Sylvia. We thought she would be fine after getting genetically tested, finding out it was positive and going through with a double mastectomy (that later on got infected requiring another surgery). A few months ago my sister went to the ER with excruciating stomach pain to learn she had cysts requiring further in-depth examination. After multiple doctor visits and testing, they found masses and cysts on her ovaries. Without surgery, her doctors would be unable to know if it was cancer or not. Due to my family’s history, they recommended a complete hysterectomy. The chances of conceiving another child were ripped from her the day of her surgery. The doctor told us pathology found cancer cells in her ovaries, fallopian tubes, and they have also leaked out into her body. Everything had to be removed, but sadly there is still cancer in her body. She has been diagnosed with Stage 3A ovarian cancer. August 25th she will be going to the oncologist to have a port inserted, where she will receive chemotherapy from.

Her insurance did not cover all surgery expenses and will not cover all future chemotherapy or procedure expenses. There is still a long road ahead with chemotherapy and other treatments in order for her to beat this. The purpose of this gofundme is to relieve her of some financial burden since she will need to take time off from work and continue paying for medical expenses/procedures during this journey. My sister moved to Florida a few years ago and worked hard alongside her husband to buy a beautiful house for my nephews to grow up in. She has a job she loves but now they will not be able to provide her with the time off she needs to fight this peacefully. My brother-in-law will also need to take time off to care for the love of his life as she fights this.

We know that this is a big ask but no one in their 30s, let alone any age should have to worry about being able to pay their medical expenses, pay a mortgage, or provide for their children. To know my sister is to love her, she is beautiful in every way and selfless. She has two beautiful sons and an amazing husband. I want my family to focus on supporting my sister and ensuring her that she will beat this, not worrying about the financial cost since it has already taken so much from us emotionally.
