Get Jess Back Home
My cousin Jessica left for Canada in late August of 2019, before any outbreaks or knowing that covid-19 would cause a worldwide pandemic.
Today, flights home are upwards of $20k, and aren’t available to take until long after her working visa is valid. Many Australians in Canada are getting by from couch surfing, odd jobs, and uncertainty if they’ll get home anytime soon. Don’t let this continue.
Among the thousands of people disadvantaged due to the impacts of the outbreak, those stuck overseas are feeling abandoned by Australia, given little to no financial assistance, no promise on if they’ll be able to return anytime soon, and worst of all, are feeling so scared.
Seeing what Jess has to go through due to a situation that was so far out of her control has left me personally feeling so lucky, and selfish. Many of us are receiving government support for the loss of work, but remain safe and at home. The privilege of such a simple thing is something we take for granted.
The Australian government has left those stuck overseas to fend for themselves and personally I think it’s disgusting. Having to spend thousands on flights, visa extensions ($1.5k), accommodation, job searching, basic living expenses, just to return to an incompetent government that has badly handled the most recent outbreak, leaving thousands of Australians in terrible situations.
As her family i’m genuinely scared for Jess. She’s 22 and just wants to get back home. Please find it in yourself and your humanity to care for this as much as I do.
Any donation helps. Thankyou.
