My 73-year-old mom, Christine Collins, needs help replacing the old aluminum windows in her home, which have become unsafe due to severe black mold growth. She has a bronchial disorder, making exposure to mold especially dangerous for her health. The windows no longer open and allow cold air and moisture inside, causing black mold to spread not only on the frames but also onto the walls. My mom works part-time at A Grape in the Fog in Pacifica, CA, where she is loved by so many in the community, and she also relies on Social Security. Unfortunately, she has no funds to make these critical repairs. I am a single mom struggling to cover my own rent and bills and wish I could help her myself. The situation came to light after my uncle, who lived with my mom for the past 13 years, recently passed away. He had not allowed her into his room during that time, and she did not realize how severe the mold problem was until cleaning it out after his death. I did my best to clean the mold, but it has been there for so long that it will not come off the windows. I’ve asked my mom to stay out of that room because I’m deeply worried about her health. My son has since moved into the house to be there for her and is supposed to use that bedroom, but he cannot until the mold issue is resolved — and I don’t want him exposed either. We are asking for help to replace the windows in both bedrooms so moisture can no longer enter the home and this dangerous mold can be properly addressed. Any donation or recommendation for a contractor who may be able to help would mean more than words can express. Thank you so much for reading, sharing, and supporting my mom during this difficult time.
