A few months ago, my mom started having some eye pain. She started taking aspirin and resting more in an effort to minimize the pain. For those that know her, Lucy is one tough cookie, but she couldn't bear the pain, went and saw an optometrist and eventually they led her to an eye specialist. This is where they figured out she had shingles on her eye. We are currently in month 3 (and counting) of her not being able to work, let alone go outside, or be out of bed for long periods of time. She has been on intense antivirals and had one procedure done on her eye where they put a stem cell patch right on the cornea, and we have seen no improvements. There will definitely be more procedures that need to be done (hopefully they will help). To say it's been a very hard road would be an understatement. But she’s the strongest person I know.
Lucy has a very supportive network. Her best friends and I have been at her bedside for the last couple months and counting. She has so many amazing people in her life, including—but not limited to—friends, brothers, sisters, and mother. And they have all been amazing and very supportive.
Long story short, the doctors still don't know how this happened or when it will get better. Due to her not being able to work, all of these expenses have started adding up and are taking a toll on her finances. Yes, she has medical insurance (though not the best), however it is not enough.
Lucy is an amazingly positive, selfless and passionate person. She makes others around her smile and laugh, even during these difficult times. Please show your financial support and help provide some ease of mind to an extremely stressful situation. It would be so greatly appreciated!
