Hello my name is Hunter Lawson and I am desperately trying to raise money to stay in school. I am 31 years old and I am a recovering addict and alcoholic. I spent my entire 20’s hooked on drugs and went nowhere in my life. When I was 28 I got my second DUI and a hit and run after I side swiped a 68 year old lady. I don’t remember it but apparently I got out of the car, made sure she was okay, then got back in and drove off. After I was arrested, I was looking through my paper work in jail and the cops had mistakenly given me her phone number on one of them for insurance purposes. The day I got out I called her and apologized. I’m not sure why I did it, my parents and lawyer both told me not to. She ended up being the nicest person I have ever met. She could have sued me for everything I had, and although I didn’t have much, she would have definitely won. Instead of doing that she forgave me and talked to me about Jesus. We ended talking every weekend and eventually I gave myself up to the Lord. I started getting sober 2 and a half years ago but it’s been a long road littered with failures. It’s only by the grace of God that I learned from these failures and can proudly say that now I am healed and have a new sense of purpose. Currently I am attending Liberty University and am in their Nursing program. I have a 4.0 GPA and am in their honors program. I planned on working this summer while attending summer school but unfortunately with everything going on in the world was unable to save up enough money. As of now, I do have a job working in the Liberty computer lab, but with my full class load I am not able to make enough to pay rent and my bills. I am too old to live on campus, per the university’s rules, and do not have a car, so I am only able to work Monday through Friday when the bus runs. I have already exhausted my efforts with financial aid and don’t know what else to do besides ask for help. I am already behind on rent and I fear I will have to drop out of school unless I somehow come up with enough money to stay in my apartment. If you can I would so very much appreciate any help you can offer, and if you aren’t in a place to help I just ask for your prayers and to share this. Also if anybody has any connections in Lynchburg and knows someone who is looking for a roommate, please let me know. That would half my rent and make things much simpler.
Thank you so much for your time and help,
Hunter Lawson
