Update:

Dwight has successfully completed the radiation and chemo treatments during the winter. He’s continuing to receive chemo through pill form over recent months. He’s so strong and so much fight in him battling the effects of this cancer ever day! He’s making memories and spending time with family, his wife, his two girls and his 4 grandsons. His newest grandson was born early winter and he’s enjoying time getting to know his poppa!

There are good days and not so good days. The financial stress is playing a toll. As you all know Dwight hasn’t been able to work since his diagnosis in Nov 2025. He received a few weeks of Sick EI benefits but they have long ran out. Isabel’s EI is soon coming to an end as well. When this happens they will have no source of income.

I’m sharing Dwight’s story again and asking again for your help in helping this family.

He’s gotten through 2 brain surgeries and enormous amounts of treatments but he’s still with us and even got his salmon during the NunatuKavut food fishing. He still has to travel for medical appointments to Goose Bay, Corner Brook and St. John’s thus requiring money for those expenses.

Dwight is back in hospital in St. John’s after two life threatening seizures. After several days of trying to get him medivaced out of Labrador then out of St. Anthony with no success, Isabel had to sign him out of icu and take him on a regular scheduled flight to St. John’s to get the much needed care he required! We are waiting on MRI results to pen point the reason for the seizers.

Him and Isabel will be spending Christmas in St. John’s and away from their families. Let’s continue to support Dwight and his family throughout this holiday season.

Hi I’m Melita, my youngest brother Dwight was recently diagnosed with a Glioma brain cancer at the age of 54. Dwight’s family means everything to him. Him and his wife Isabel have two beautiful daughters. Dwight is an amazing grandfather to his three young grandsons and a fourth grandbaby due in Jan. He’s been a carpenter all his life and have spent his career working in various parts of our country managing big construction projects. His most recent employment took him to Arviat, Nunavut.

Working in construction has been Dwight’s life and now he isn’t able to work and this puts a big financial stress on him and his family.

His daughters Courtney and Tamesha have put the following piece together based on their father’s medical journey so far.

You often hear the term “cancer” and can’t imagine it would hit so close to home until it enters your home. We brought our dad to emergency in Goose Bay November 15th 2025 as he was not feeling or acting like himself. He was confused and unable to communicate clearly. We thought maybe he could be depressed or experiencing complications from a concussion the year before. After an 11 hour wait in emergency, he was taken in for some tests. His scan came back showing a 6.9 cm tumour on the left side of his brain that was aggressive and fast growing. A phone call we never expected to receive. Every day since this has felt so long between trying to get him into St.Johns to see a neurosurgeon, waiting to receive his surgery and then awaiting results. They arrived into emergency at the Health Science Centre in St.Johns November 18th and dad went into brain surgery on the 24th. The doctor was able to remove the majority of his tumour with hopes that radiation and chemo treatments in the new year will resolve what’s left. Post surgery, he is confirmed to have a glioma tumour in his brain but we are still waiting to hear specifically the grade of it. We may not find this out until the new year. They have been away from home for almost 2 weeks already, and have another couple of weeks in St.Johns before it is safe for him to fly home. They then have to return in January for another 6 weeks to receive his treatment.

Life has become more expensive than ever as we all know. Dad will not be returning to work anytime soon and our mom is in the same boat as she will be taking care of him. They have been receiving some help from Nunatukavut which we are so grateful for. But eventually what they are eligible for will run out, and even now they are still left with some of the expenses at the end of the day. Mom and dad have silently given so much to others over the years, and our mom especially always helps and supports any fundraiser she can. They would never ask for a thing but are so deserving of that same support.
