Less than a year ago, I saw a photo of a little brown puppy on the humane society’s website. He had a tiny mohawk down his face and the scruffiest little beard, and I couldn’t stop thinking about him.
On the last day of school, I went to meet him. That decision changed everything.
Tucker became part of our family that day and gave our dog, Hobi, the brother we always knew he needed. In just one year, he has filled our home with so much love. If you have met Tucker, you know he greets everyone like an old friend, with nose boops, cuddles, and a constantly wagging tail.
From the very beginning, Tucker had an unusual way of walking. We thought it was just a quirk, until we realized it was actually a limp.
After X-rays, our vet diagnosed Tucker with elbow dysplasia, a condition where the elbow joint does not develop properly. It causes pain and limits mobility. While it cannot be cured, it can be treated.
Tucker now needs orthopedic surgery on his front left leg. There is also concern that a bone fragment may have broken off because of this condition. While we are hopeful surgery will fix this, amputation is a possibility.
The hardest part is that Tucker barely shows his pain. He still wants to play, go on walks, and stay right by our side. He has always been gentle and careful in how he moves, and we have never truly seen him run freely. Now we understand why.
Tucker just turned one on March 11. He has his whole life ahead of him, and this surgery is the only way to give him the healthy, pain-free future he deserves.
The cost of surgery and recovery is overwhelming for our family, so we are asking for help. Any donation, no matter how small, brings Tucker one step closer to running and playing without pain.
If you are unable to donate, sharing Tucker’s story would mean the world to us. Thank you for helping our brave little guy get back on his paws.
With love and gratitude,
The Moats Family
