Please help us fund Winnies surgery

Donation protected
Hello.
My name is Christina, and after encouragement from friends, I’m fundraising to help us pay for our Winnie’s surgery and ongoing vet bills.

Winnie broke her leg in a freak accident and required major surgery with plates and screws to repair and strengthen her leg so she can lead a normal life. With continuing vet visits, and care to ensure everything heals properly, and an up coming second surgery, the vet fees are huge and I’m unable to work (I was going too return to relief work to pay the bills) as I need to stay with her in her confinement.

Let me introduce you to our gorgeous girl.

Winnie is our rescue dog, and over the last four years (yes, our covid pup) we have worked with her gently to help her trust and feel safe in her world. She was frightened of everything, and we realised she had been badly abused. Despite being fearful of other dogs, she clicked with her now brother, Max, and they pine for each other when apart. Max has slept near her pen since the accident, and constantly checks on her.
Winnie is a goofy, loveable, funny girl and we adore her. She loves chasing her tail (something she won’t be able to do for a while), throwing and chasing her own ball, cuddling with her humans, and lots and lots of tummy rubs.

Winnie still startles easily, which is how she twisted her leg (spiral fracture down most of the length of her tibia), but is a different girl to the one who we met on a snowy Hobart day, curled in the corner of the room. Being in hospital around other dogs is hugely traumatic for her, as it is for any fur babe in this situation.

I’ll be honest, it isn’t easy to ask for help. Thank you to those who have encouraged me to do this. We’ve always managed before, but after a year of resigning from my job to be a carer for family members, and still recovering financially from assisting a family member through a serious illness, being told the vet bill is expected to come in at over $10,000.00 was overwhelming, terrifying and devastating.

So, if you can help us by donating or sharing, or both, I will be truly and eternally grateful. Every little bit helps, and Winnie can look forward to one day catching that tail, and bouncing around with joy when we walk through the door (one hour equates to five dog years when we go out). She deserves a good life after the difficult beginning she had.

She thanks you for your love and help, as do her humans.

P.S. Whilst we have no expectation of covering the entire bill through donations, if in an extraordinary event we have more than we need, any excess will be donated to The Hobart Dogs Home (where we adopted Winnie), as they, too, are in need of support.

Thank you.
