Funeral Expenses and Family Support

When people talk about my Mom, they say; “the first day you meet Ngozi, is the very moment she will begin to help you plan your life” and she would forget about herself to help others succeed.

ME:
My name is Tobi Otti. I am 19 years old and I am the first of six children [Chika (12), Amara (10), Gamma (8), Amen (7), Joshua (5)] of the late Mrs. Ngozi Otti who passed away on August 24thafter a hard struggle with breast and liver cancer.

MY MOM’S WISH:
My mom’s final wish was to go home to be surrounded by her elderly parents and siblings who she had not seen in 15 years.  Unfortunately, mom did not get the chance and my grandparents are ill and too old to travel to Canada.

I am appealing to you to help us:
-      Return her body home to Nigeria and grant her final wish
-      Pay the funeral home expenses
-      Help to purchase tickets for her six children and my father to travel back home and
-      Help us to perform the burial rites and properly lay her to rest at home.

WHAT HAPPENED?
In April 2018, I realized that my mom had been sick for a while.  Her final wish was to travel back home to Nigeria with all of us (my siblings and I) to see her parents and siblings and to share the news with them directly.  My father and I were determined to grant my mom this single last wish of hers while she still had some time left. We had begun the travel plans and had just secured our passports when her health started to deteriorate quickly. Due to financial reasons, we were unable to speed up the travel process to get her home sooner for her to see her parents and to die surrounded by her family and friends. She fought her best until the very last few minutes after 7pm on Friday, August 24th, 2018 when she left this world.

MY MOM’S LIFE:
My mom was a selfless, virtuous woman who gave all she had to help others; she was a loving wife to my father; a selfless mother to her six beautiful children; a wonderful sister to her siblings; an obedient daughter to her parents and a rare gem to the community of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

After moving to Canada and completing her studies in 2003, mom spent her 15 years in Canada trying to improve the African and the immigrant community in Halifax. She set up a large number of immigration forums for immigrant empowerment in the community, started self-help programs for women, nurtured young entrepreneurs and instituted support systems for newcomer families. She also volunteered with several organizations and successfully rallied several factions of the Nova Scotia community to the common goal of improving the lives of everyone she met.

My mom’s last act was a visionaire and founder of a not-for-profit cooperative aimed at helping immigrants and persons with established barriers (like seniors, youths with limited resources, persons with disabilities, women…) grow their small business and gain the confidence they need to be successful entrepreneurs in Canada.  She poured everything into this dream until her last breath.

MY THANKS:
Considering the circumstances, your donations are urgently needed. Any donation amount will be very helpful and will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, no worries, I still truly appreciate you for taking the time to read and share this message.

Thank you,

Toby Otti
