My Friend's Battle with Kidney Cancer

Greetings All,

I am Jessie Tate. I am a tutor, mother, and spouse of active duty Chief Larry Tate.

I am raising money on behalf of one of my former students and her mother; my very close friend. (They are an extremely private family and currently wish to remain anonymous, but they've given me permission to share their story).

In the past week, this spirited young 14-year-old teen and her family's world turned upside down. A visit to the ER shook them to the core, as they learned their oldest daughter had a tumor on her kidney and surrounding areas. Within a couple of days she underwent kidney removal surgery, and unfortunately, the family is processing a medical diagnosis that most parents hope to never hear. They have a tremendous journey ahead of them, as their daughter must endure another surgery just 10 days after her first, and soon begin chemotherapy to rid her young body of any lingering cancer.

As if that weren't already enough to handle in a week, her two younger siblings and father suddenly fell sick and are currently quarantining.

In this life EVERYONE needs a tribe, and due to a recent relocation they haven’t yet formed a reliable group of friends. SO I’M CALLING ON MINE!

Due to the seriousness of this sweet girl’s diagnosis and the long road ahead, Mom had to quit her job (which was providing a second income for their family of 5). Funds raised here will assist with all meals during their more immediate moment of crisis and help to offset the family’s shift in finances.
