Cameron’s Transplant!
Donation protected
Cameron Messer was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre’ Syndrome (an autoimmune disease that attacks nerve cells) at 5-years of age. He was then diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at age 13. He developed kidney failure at age 29. Doctors informed himthat he needed and a new kidney and pancreas and that without dialysis, he would be dead within three months. He began DAILY home dialysis (8-1/2 hour process) and was approved for, and placed on the list for organ donation.
Cameron is from Alabama and married his high school sweetheart, Dani. He has devoted his life to assisting individuals with cognitive and developmental disabilities and moved to Texas to continue this pursuit, while Dani has been working in retail.
Two weeks ago, Cameron learned that he was sixth on the list to receive a kidney and pancreas in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and that he could receive the call at any time; however, just a few days after receiving the good news, he unexpectedly LOST his job. He will be forced to replace his health insurance benefits with COBRA, although premium payments are exorbitant and wages no longer exist to meet this necessary expense.
He and Dani will lose their home in April when their lease expires. Social security and Medicare applications have been submitted, as well as unemployment and food stamps; however, he is too sick at this point to pursue employment and Dani’s retail income and lack of benefits are insufficient in meeting their basic needs, but offer her the necessary support system that she heavily relies on at this point, since the couple’s primary goal is to ultimately relocate back home to Alabama for family support, assistance and stability. Additionally, Dani is the primary caregiver to Cameron at this point.
Cameron cannot regulate his own body temperature at this point, is in chronic, severe pain and his body is markedly swollen. Every day is a struggle for Cameron, especially regarding muscle fatigue and stamina. He is so very close to receiving the organs that he desperately needs to save his life, but meetingbasic living expenses has become his new worry. Following this necessary transplant, Cameron will be required to recover for a minimum of eight weeks. He needs to maintain residence in Texas throughout recovery, so that he can transition back to Alabama and rebuild his life with Dani.
This situation is life and death for Cameron. Please help these kids meet their living, medical and relocation expenses to help minimize the stressors of this very difficult and demanding time in their lives!
