On January 4th 2016 our son Michael Anthony Roa was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, ALL for short. He was taken to Largo Medical Center and shortly after transferred to Moffitt Cancer Center.
Michael had been receiving all of his cancer treatment at Moffitt Medical Center. He had numerous platelet transfusions, blood transfusions, lumbar punctures, and bone marrow biopsies. He also under went two full rounds of Hyper CVAD chemotherapy.
After the first two rounds of chemotherapy he found out that his blood had a trait known as "Philadelphia like" which is chemo resistant. Shortly after Michael was put into a experimental trial procedure using CAR T cells.
During the trial, Michael got sick fast which included a high fever of 104 .9, two seizures, a stroke, and a four day intubation. After waking up Michael couldn't walk or move due to his body being so weak, this lasted a few weeks. At the end Michael was able to go into lodging which was supposed to be two weeks, it only lasted two days.
Michael was rushed to the hospital but this time it was Florida Hospital, It was there where they found out Michael had blood clots in both of his lungs. Michael had surgery that removed 70% of clotting in the lungs. A few days later Michael was transferred back to Moffitt Cancer Center and observed for about two weeks while using oxygen and being on a Heparin drip.
Michael was released from Moffitt Cancer Center and was told that he was in complete remission. Michael still had one more treatment to go which was a bone marrow transplant.
About 3 months of being in remission Michael's Cancer came back. Michael continued with other treatments, along with these treaments came many side effects. On January 11, 2017 Michael had Brain Surgery, he recovered and came home on January 13, 2017 then on January 17, 2017 he returned to Moffitt to have labs drawn. Michael was then admitted for another round of Immunotherapy called Blyncito.
During Michael's Immunotherapy his Immune System was compromised by a Fungal Sinus Infection and Bacteria infection which resulted in several surgeries to remove Fungal tissues from his sinus cavity, he was intubated for 6 days in ICU.
Michael then was de-intubated and moved to the 5th floor at Moffitt where Michael's health started to decline and on February 5, 2017 at 04:20pm Michael 's battle with Cancer had come to its end.
Our son fought very hard and was so Courgeous and in honor of Michael we would like to have a Funeral that he so deserves!
To know MICHAEL was to LOVE him!!
He will forever be loved, missed and remembered the awesome son, brother, nephew, cousin, grandson and friend!!
At this time we are asking for any contributions to help to defray the cost of Michael's Funeral and other medical expenses not covered by insurance.
We would like to thank each and every one of you for your contributions/donations in this time of need. God Bless!
Sleep in Peace our Beautiful Angel!!!
This is why I haved decided to make a GoFundMe campaign.
