Jesse's Medical Fund

I'm not too sure that many people are aware of my brother-in-law's cancer diagnosis. He is a fairly private person and hasn't shared with many people the struggles that he has been dealing with. Jesse is the dad of my two nieces, Paige and Emma Schaffer.

Jesse initially went to the hospital a few months ago seeking treatment for an infection on his toe that wouldn't heal due to his diabetes. This eventually led to him having his toe removed. But while he was at the hospital, doctors noticed an elevated PSA (prostate-specific antigen) level that showed a high probability of cancer.

After multiple exams and biopsies, doctors confirmed that 10 of his 12 biopsies were positive for cancer. Jesse then had to undergo surgery  to remove his prostate, but there were signs that his cancer had already spread to surrounding areas. His cancer had been put in the "high risk" category.

Around the same time, he was hospitalized with a septic blood infection and his organs were showing signs of distress and pre-failure.

In addition to the first surgery, Jesse found out there was nerve damage to his bladder resulting in the need for another surgery. Now he is facing another bacterial infection, which landed him in the hospital once again.

Jesse is self-employed and has been unable to work for much of the last few months, and all the while medical and household bills are adding up. In December of 2014, he had open heart surgery which also put him out of work for a few months, so he was just getting ahead of the financial crisis caused by that. His wife, Teresa, is trying to keep working, but really needs to be home to care for him.

He has to wait and heal from his last surgery before doctors can begin 6 months of radiation to fight his cancer.

As Jesse is feeling physically, spiritually, and financially drained,  he could really use some help so that he can simply focus on resting and healing. Any gift would be greatly appreciated and if you are unable to give, please keep Jesse and his family in your prayers.

Thank you.
