This fundraiser is for ongoing medical expenses for my sister April Newell Kinard.
For those who know my sister, you know what an outgoing, kind, and caring person she is. Weather it is bringing food to a neighbor cause she likes to cook and made too much that she just had to share, or laughing at her quick witted humor in her antics (and don't even get me started on her funky socks), She is a very independent person and relying on other's is not her style. However, that is where we are now.
April LOVES the outdoors and has been an enthusiast of anything active her whole life. Unfortunately the last 6 years has changed all that.
Six years ago, she started having trouble with her neck and back. Long story short- she has had 6 surgeries since then and her pain is getting worse.
2015 Disc Replacement w/fusion in neck
2016 Disc Replacement w/ fusion in neck
2017 Lumbar Disc Replacement w/fusion Anterior
Surgery cont. through back -Posterior Fusion and Rod on Left Side
2018 Repair ALL of neck. 1st front side:
Following day Posterior - Rod and Screws
The structure has been repaired, but the nerves are NOT functioning properly.
The best answer she has received is that she has fibromyalgia along with Muscular Skeletal Pain. Also known as “Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome” or CRPS.
Today, she has limited use of her arms and legs due to pain, and she has to use crutches or a wheelchair wherever she goes. She has severe sensitivity to pain in her ankles/feet, it can be so intense at times that even touching a bed sheet can send her into excruciating pain. Her mobility varies day to day. Some days she can start with walking only to have to be in her wheelchair just 30 minutes later. Other times, she can use her crutches for most of the day.
The next step in treatment is Ketamine infusions. She has just started this last week. However, the infusion treatments are very expensive and insurance is not accepted. With each infusion running about $1400 per treatment or $6000 for the full treatments that may be needed 2-3 times a year, savings are now depleted, and this is the only thing we can think of to help off set some costs.
Her medication costs keep rising, her doctor visits are becoming more expensive due to insurance changes, and as with any ongoing medical issues there are always bills coming in that insurance doesn't cover.
If the infusions don't work for her, the next option is to implant a pain stimulator. Which means more medical bills.
All funds received go directly to her for her ongoing medical needs.
Thank you.
