Carter Lunt's Medical Fund

Many people have reached out to our family asking how they can help us during this very difficult time. After talking with those close to us we felt a GoFundMe account would provide the best source of assistance as we are currently a single income family. We are not ones to typically ask for help so this is a very hard thing for us to do - but any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

For those of you who do not know,  our son Carter was injured badly after falling while playing in the front yard. He hit the back of his head on some cement curbing surrounding a flower bed. We immediately rushed him to Riverton hospital where they performed his first CT scan. This scan revealed a skull fracture with bleeding in his head. At this point they rushed us by ambulance from Riverton to Primary Children's Medical Center. Once at PCMC they took him right back for more x-rays as they feared he may have also broken his neck -thank god his neck was not injured.Once treated by the Trauma team in the emergency room he was then admitted to the Nuero Trauma unit. Over the next 3 days his condition continued to go down hill. On Sunday morning the Nuero Surgeons decided to perform another CT scan....which is such a blessing they did considering another trauma doctor discussed sending him home that afternoon not knowing how badly things had changed. This scan showed the bleeding was over 3x larger compared to the first scan. It also showed that a major vein running from the front of his head to the back was either damaged or blocked due to the size/volume of the blood. The vein had no where to drain so the pressure continued to build causing severe headaches and vomiting.

This is when we were faced with one of the hardest decisions of our lives - whether to wait out the bleeding & head pressure or send him back to surgery immediately. The surgeon would remove the blood clot, stop the bleeding and repair the vein and any damaged tissues surrounding his brain. We did not feel it was safe to wait so we agreed to surgery.  Carter was in the operating room for over 2 hours  where they made over a 6 inch incision down the back of his head. After surgery he was then taken straight to the PICU for constant supervision. After spending sometime in the PICU he was then moved back to the Nuero Trauma unit for the remainder of his stay.

I am happy to say that Carter was Finally  released from the hospital to recover at home....which will still be a long, hard road!!! He will  have many ongoing appointments with the Neuro Surgeons, outpatient rehabilitation and the UofU concussion clinic. For the next 8 weeks he is restricted to walking only - which means no recess, no PE and no Baseball :( He is also experiencing really bad mood swings and at times becomes very hostile. But, things WILL get better and our family is VERY thankful for all the love and support offered to us. We Love and Thank You All!!!
