Help Jake Heal
Jake has always been known as an outgoing, witty, and exceptionally bright boy—wise beyond his years and able to light up any room with his humor and kindness. To his family, he is the heart of their home.
On June 12, 2025, tragedy struck when a fire broke out at their house. Jake suffered severe burns from the waist up and was rushed to the ER an hour away. His injuries were so severe that he was intubated and placed under a medically induced coma.
Transferred to Weill Cornell Burn Center, the doctors confirmed 2nd and 3rd degree burns covering 40% of his body, including his neck, torso, arms, and upper back. That night, he underwent emergency surgery to remove the damaged skin. Over the next 113 days, Jake endured four skin graft surgeries, multiple infections, medication complications, and intense physical and emotional pain. For much of his hospital stay he required a feeding tube and subsequently received daily physical and occupational therapy, and ongoing mental health support.
Though Jake was recently discharged (early October) and is now home, his recovery is far from over. He still needs:
Physical therapy to rebuild strength and mobility.
Reconstructive procedures, especially for his neck, where the scarring has left his neck so tight that his mobility is greatly restricted.
Psychological care to help him reintegrate into daily life.
His mother, a single parent, has been unable to work and make an income since the incident. His older brother and sister have done what they could to help support the family while their mother focused on supporting and taking care of Jake. Now that he is out of the hospital, Jake requires full-time care and remote schooling.
Where Your Donations Are Going:
Living Expenses: Rent, food, and utilities while Jake’s mother takes care of him during his recovery.
Medical Bills: Past and future medical costs (rehabilitation, psychological care, reconstructive surgeries, etc.).
Transportation: Travel to various outpatient rehab and follow-up appointments.
The financial burden has been immense, and any contribution—big or small—will make a meaningful difference in Jake’s journey to recovery. Thank you for your support and kindness during this difficult time.
