Expenses for Hospital Stay

Donation protected
I’m sure most of y’all know from working years at the EMS but I’m Teresa Seal, I’m Christopher Barger’s mother and this is his story as best I can tell.   Chris has been doing really good, all of us as his family have been so proud of him he’s straightened his life up and has done so good. He lives with his brother Josh but he stays with me alot too. Josh works from 2pm-11pm everyday and Chris would come stay with me while Josh was at work.  On Tuesday August 25th Chris came to the house like he does everyday and told me that his neck was hurting he thought he had slept wrong and had a crick in his neck. On Wednesday it was worse and by Thursday it was hurting him so bad I took him to the ER , the Dr there told him he had arthritis in his neck and sent him home. By Saturday he was in agony he stayed with me Saturday night and he hurt so bad he cried all night,  by early Sunday morning he couldn’t walk and could barely use his arms, of course we immediately took him back to the ER and after they done labs they knew he was seriously sick, he was septic from a infection in his spine and he was flown to Johnson City Med Center for treatment. By this time he couldn’t use or feel his legs at all and had very little movement in his arms. He had surgery on Monday to drain the infection and we thought he would start recovering. On Wednesday he was worse he couldn’t move at all and was having a hard time breathing, they took him for another MRI and found more infection up higher and the Dr told us he would have to have another emergency surgery or he would die. He was in surgery over 5 hours but the Dr insured us that the surgery went good and all the infection was drained but that the infection had caused major damage to his spinal cord. He has now been classified as quadriplegic, even the muscles that control his breathing is paralyzed and he requires being on a ventilator to breathe.  He will be having another surgery in a couple of days to move the ET tube from his mouth to a trach in his neck and to remove the feeding tube from his nose to a peg tube in his stomach.  Chris has a good heart and a strong faith in God and has told me many times just recently that although he’s messed up many time that he has been forgiven and he always leans strongly on his salvation....He’s sedated most of the time but when  he’s awake he is terrified(as anyone would be) and the only thing that keeps him calm is having one of us with him. The ICU staff including the Drs have told us that someone needs stay from 11-8 everyday to help keep him calm and we must stay nearby as his condition is critical and can change at any time.  Family has helped all they can but to stay here is expensive, we have been staying in a hotel all we can and we have actually slept in the car in the hospital parking lot.  It’s so hard to have to ask for help but any money that you donate will go toward helping us to stay here so we can be with him. If you can’t donate Please Please remember us in your prayers especially Chris .  We have not give up hope and we know God is the great Physician.  God Bless you all
