My name is Tim Castaldy. I am not the kind of person who asks others for help often, but one of my best friends is going through a very difficult time.
Richie and Lawren Heinisch welcomed their daughter Lyla Jordan into the world on March 1st @ 10:22am. During labor the doctor attempted to break Lawren's water but instead severed the umbilical cord cutting off oxygen to Lyla. Both Lawren and Lyla were in big trouble and the room was instantly filled with doctors and nurses. Lyla was clinging to life without normal oxygen levels for a number of minutes. An emergency cesarian section was the only way to save her life. The doctors and nurses did an amazing job under immense pressure to save Lyla and Lawren. With Richie seeing stars and Lawren wondering what was happening they finally had the baby girl they had been dreaming about.
A cesarian section is major abdominal surgery and normally requires more than 2 minutes of prep time. In these circumstances a sterile procedure is a long shot. Earlier this week they arrived back in the hospital with a massive infection in Lawren's wound. She will now be on bed rest for at least 6 weeks with a wound vacuum by her side at all times and an open wound in her belly. Richie will not be able to go back to work for quite some time and they will need a nurse to come by multiple times everyday to tend to the wound and Lawren. This was not the way the first few days were supposed to go for the Heinisch family.
Like most of us they have no way of paying for something like this and medical bills have already started to roll in. As many of you already know, the first few months with a newborn can be very difficult. I can't imagine having to deal with this on top of all that.
Friends, family, and complete strangers. Whatever you can spare would be greatly appreciated and go directly to this new family struggling to get started.
Thanks so much for reading,
Tim
