Jacob's Journey

Donation protected
On Friday, March 22nd, 2019, Jacob was on his way into work at the Caterpillar Mapleton plant, just like any other Friday morning at 3:45am. While he was walking up to the building Jacob collapsed and fell straight to the ground face first. Jacob was rushed to OSF St. Francis Hospital where he was not breathing very well so the medical team had to intubate him immediately so he was then on a ventilator. During the emergency room assessment as to why he collapsed they were trying to get a CT scan completed but was unable to because at that time his heart stopped.

Jacob had 5 occurrences of his heart stopping and receiving CPR within an hour and a half. At this time the ER doctor determined that Jacob was suffering from a Pulmonary Embolism (PE blood clot) at the age of only 27 years old. After giving Jacob the medicine needed to break apart the blood clot, his heart then started to work the way it should (with medicine) and they did not have to do CPR anymore.

Jacob was admitted into the Cardiovascular ICU in very critical condition. They currently have him stable but still very critical. Due to the many occurrences of CPR the other organs in his body have taken a huge hit, such as his kidneys and he may have to  go through dialysis to get them working more correctly.

At this time he is still in ICU for an undetermined amount of time and he is still on the ventilator. We are unsure how long he will be in ICU, let alone the hospital, or the outcome of what is next after all of this.

Since Jacob is currently a supplemental (temporary) employee at Caterpillar - Mapleton, he has limited insurance benefits and nothing else. He is not able to use FMLA due to not being full time in his position. He will more than likely be out of work for awhile and will need help to pay normal household bills and any medical bills that will come his way after this tremendous ordeal. I am trying to lessen that burden on him so that he can focus on getting better.

Any help you can provide no matter how small would be a great help to him so that he can focus on his health and getting better. Thank you in advance.
