Stevie's Journey
Steve Kennedy is a 24 year old young man who was born with Spina Bifida, and has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since. Despite his challenges, Stevie lead an active life which involved creative arts and para-sports, with the goal of attending college and becoming a teacher. For him, life was normal until a cerebral shunt malfunction in November of 2007 left him legally blind.
After much prayer and research, Stevie’s parents found Dr. Jeffrey N. Weiss of the Retina Associates of Margate, South Florida. Dr. Weiss has performed numerous successful surgeries on patients who have suffered optic nerve trauma. Using a patient’s own bone marrow, Dr. Weiss has been able to help patients with Stevie’s condition regain their sight.
The exciting part is that Stevie has been deemed a perfect candidate for the surgery! If we reach our goal of raising $27,850 to cover the procedure and recovery, Stevie’s dream of recapturing his sight—and livelihood—will become a reality. He will be able to pursue his passion for art and music once again, and will be able to see his family for the first time in many years!
