Stephanie’s kidney transplant
My Sister Stephanie received a kidney transplant on February 6 2021. After two failed opportunities, the first kidney was damaged beyond repair and the second one had a fungal growth, but it finally happened. We are so Thankful...
Stephanie has IGA Nephropathy otherwise known as Berger's disease. Her Nephrologist thinks that this disease may have started in the early 2000’s unknowingly and asymptomatic to her. It took about 10 years for her to be diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and a year later she was on Dialysis.
This Transplant has been a difficult journey. She had to have 2 blood transfusions. After 4 days in the hospital she was sent home only to return 2 days later. A biopsy was performed along with other labs and results showed two major infections. She was put on IV antibiotics and received 2 more blood transfusions. After a few days she went home with antibiotics to take for a month. Stephanie was back in the hospital a few days later for severe dehydration so they kept her for a few more days. She was back home for two weeks and then back in the ER for severe pain. Finding out that she had a 4 x 8 cm solidified hematoma, caused from the biopsy. There have also been several side effects from all the medications that she is on. My family and I have helped financially but there is a gap that we can not fill alone, so I decided to go to GoFundMe so that my sister and her husband can have the funds they need to pay any bills and/or medications without having to constantly worry about money. So I say thank you.... seriously for any help you can give. It really would mean so much. Heidi
