On Friday June 14, 2024, I was heading downtown to work. I parked in the church parking lot at Weston and Lawrence. Finished my shift and headed back to the vehicle. This beautiful scene welcomed me upon my arrival back. As you can clearly see, someone stomped the centre of the windshield, and this was no accident. I looked around the parking lot and none of the other 15 cars present, had any damage to them at all. There was no sign of a break in. The motivation behind this? My Blue Jays pride sticker on the back of the vehicle. It is presently being investigated as a hate crime by the police, and video surveillance of the area is being reviewed. However, there is no way to recoup the money it costs to replace the windshield. Insurance won’t cover it due to the deductible being $1000. The Ontario victim fund doesn’t cover incidents like this. I am struggling to understand how I need to be held responsible for the cost of this, for having done absolutely nothing wrong. If you find it in your heart, any help would be greatly appreciated. I only want to cover the cost of the windshield to be replaced, which has been quoted as $550. All monies raised goes towards this amount and covering the GoFundMe fees. *****updated******
I am normally not one to ask for help, but I am now.
Thank you,
