On December 23nd, 2020, my dear friend received news that would change her life completely. She had been diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma that started in her tongue and spread to her lymph nodes. She has had surgery to remove the cancerous tumor from her tongue and 35 lymph nodes on January 20th, 2021. Then started radiation and chemotherapy 6 weeks after that. Had 33 radiation treatments and 3 rounds of chemotherapy. Michelle is not a smoker, does not dip and is not a heavy drinker. Her doctors have said that she just got unlucky. She has appointments coming up to see if the cancer has spread to her brain. The chemo and radiation have been hard on her body not to mention mentally and emotionally tough on her.

 

Michelle is one of kindest people that I have ever met. Have you ever had that person that is so calm it is like they can calm a storm? Well that is Michelle. Never have I ever heard her say anything ugly or negative thing about anyone. She is always trying to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Always lending a hand to anyone that needs it. She says that are so many people that are more deserving than she is and would rather help others before herself.

 

Michelle is not the one to ask for help. She has been totally against anyone creating a GoFundMe but there are times like this when you have to do what you don’t want to do.  Michelle has been off work for months and while she has received help from friends, family and her church, the help has slowed but the bills haven't. She is getting closer to going back to work but the bills keep rolling in.
