Help Us Escape Unsafe Living Conditions

In September of 2024, I signed a lease at an apartment complex with my partner that was sold to us as a safe, clean, well-managed property. This turned out to be false. Upon attempting to move in, we realized very quickly how bad the property truly was. Cockroaches infest both our unit and the entire property; I have found and killed one every day since we've occupied the space. External security doors are broken, trash clutters corridors and common spaces, laundry rooms don't have working machines and clothes are scattered all over. I had personal items stolen before even entering the unit. There's a long list of additional hazards and issues that make this space uninhabitable for us, and we are desperately working on moving out as soon as possible.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to help us escape what we both agree is a nightmare situation. We haven't slept because of the excessive neighbor noise, the cockroaches make us feel sick even being in the building, and we fear for our safety given the immediate theft we experienced right on day one. We simply cannot live there, and we are attempting a buyout of the lease, which is what this fundraiser will assist with.

We wish it hadn't come to this. Asking for funds has never been comfortable for either of us, and we have considered coming up with the finances other ways, but these methods would take much longer, and our mental health would continue to degrade. We have completely stopped unpacking and settling in; we've even started to pack things back up and move them off the property in fear of more theft and roaches hiding in the clutter. We've never experienced anything like this before, and we need help.

There are plenty of avenues we've started down legally to remedy the situation, but this comes with a cost. Any donation is highly appreciated and will go directly towards the buyout and additional fees. 6k will cover the cost of the buyout as well as rent due during the 60 day period we are legally required to retain the unit for before moving out. Our funds are drained from this entire process, and although we will be able to recover a large portion of it, we will not be able to do so in time.
