Hi my name is Heather Paton and my husband, Doctore Paton, was the victim of a stabbing committed by a stranger on a spree of violence. My husband is the father of 3 under 9 years old.

On Friday 9/29/23, a stranger walked up to our home and asked for a ride, claiming his car broke down at the nearby Target. We now know this man's name to be Tyler Rizer. Tyler destroyed the lives of multiple families that night. After he asked for the ride he stated his car had broken down at Target and needed a ride back to there. My husband, Doctore, felt sorry for him and agreed to take him to his car. As they where driving to his car Tyler Rizer said that my husband could just drop him at lees summit Rd and i70 so Doctore pulled over to let him out which is when Rizer grabbed a steak knife that was left in our car from a dinner at work. Rizer then told Doctore to keep driving or he would stab him. My husband then proceeded to drive and attempted to get off the hwy at Noland road where Rizer jerked the wheel back onto highway. They hit traffic and the man told my husband to go around. Doctore drove on the shoulder of the highway and was able to slow the car enough to throw it into park and jerked keys from the ignition. That's when Tyler stabbed my husband 2 times in the chest, lacerating each lung. My husband then ran from car to the back side of some nearby houses where he jumped a 5 foot fence and was screaming for help a man came to his aid. The resident who helped him had to distract Tyler Rizer. My husband Doctore Paton says this is because Rizer was trying to finish his life. At this point the resident aiding my husband found a shovel and was able to scare Tyler away.

Following this incident Tyler Rizer
attacked a woman and her two small children before killing the father of those kids. Rizer shot that man in head and another neighbor in chest. Rizer then he escaped in the dead man’s car. He wrecked that vehicle and attempted another car jacking. Rizer was caught on Saturday morning in the wee hours.

I'm asking for this money to help with the bills incurred by this violent act. My husband will not be able to work or even assist with our 3 children while he recovers which means I will not be able to work many hours as I am now the sole caregiver to my husband and our children. Due to the actions of a person unknown to us, our family needs your help to keep us afloat as we heal from this traumatic incident.
