Hello, my name is Andrea, and I’m fundraising to support John Brants and Dr. Karol Mathews, Professor Emeritus at the Ontario Veterinary College, after the heartbreaking loss of their home to a fire on October 8, 2025.

While John and Karol were fortunate to escape with their dog and vehicles, the fire spread rapidly, leaving them with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. Tragically, their two beloved cats are still missing.

Their home—filled with a lifetime of memories, travel treasures, garden beauty, and cherished collections—is gone.

Right now, with people offering to help, Karol and John are needing to reacquire daily necessities: clothes, supplies, daily living items while they establish a new home. A kind neighbor has offered a granny flat for short-term living while insurance matters are being sorted.

Although a house can be rebuilt, the emotional and financial toll is immense. Any assistance you would like to give will go directly toward helping Karol and John begin to recover after this life-altering event.
