The Philippine islands have suffered several major disasters in 2013, including a major earthquake and a super typhoon. The earthquake in October registered at magnitude 6.2, leaving its infrastructure severely damaged and killing or injuring more than 200 people. In November 2013 the area was hit by super typhoon Haiyan, dubbed as the strongest typhoon to ever make landfall anywhere in the world.
The Philippine islands are an archipelago of 7107 islands situated in the Western Pacific ocean near the equator, making it prone to typhoons and earthquakes. The Philippines is the 12th most populous nation in the world with 98 million people and ranks in the top 5 countries in the world for natural disasters. The country is gifted with abundant natural resources and some of the world's greatest biodiversity showcased along its beautiful coastlines and rain forests.
I want to share with you a challenging ministry opportunity God has presented to me. During August 5 - August 18th, I will be going to Davao City with a team from Lighthouse Baptist Church. Our two-week trip will focus on supporting Christ for the Philippines missionary Tony Tirse with spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The purpose of our trip is fourfold:
First, we will be allowing God to work in our lives through the personal enrichment that comes from this type of a mission trip.
Second, we will help establish a new local church for the newly saved congregation that missionay Tony has developed thus far.
Third, we will be visiting an unreached group of people who are hungry for the word of God but have never had it presented to them in truth.
Fourth, we will encourage local belivers. Our presence will bolster their spirits and support their work.
I'm excited about the opportunity and experience that lie ahead. I hope you see the value in what we will accomplish. As you can imagine, a trip like this requires financial support from a number of people. I need to raise $3,500 by July 1st 2014. If you can support me in a financial way, I would be very grateful. And, most importantly, I also need your prayer support. Prayer is the fuel that will allow us to be successful as we follow God's will in the Philippines. Without prayer, nothing will happen.
While money is important, it comes in a distant second to my need for your prayer support. Since prayer support is so important to the success of this mission, I would like to know if I can count on you in that area.
Because they haven't heard,
