My mom, Debbie, was diagnosed in 1998 with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) after years of doctor’s appointments without answers. What is MS? MS is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body.
My mom has fought an amazing fight over the last 18 years. She has never let this disease determine her life nor has she allowed it to win. My mom attended all of my soccer and volley ball games (both home and away), banquets, homecoming events, prom events, and etc. Everyone knew who my mom was! She alwasy supported my friends and I.
My mom’s goal is to not allow herself to give up and to prolong permanently being in a wheel chair (her greatest fear). However, due to the extra stress over the last few weeks her health has drastically declined. Her mind is not as sharp as it used to be. The loss of feeling in her extremities has worsened and she has lost control of her bodily functions. She is not able to care for herself as she once was.
Within the last two weeks my mother has lost her home of 28 years, her cat, and her husband who will be gone for a long time due to a DUI. The landlord raised the rent and my mom was no longer able to use her Social Security Disability check to cover the rent. My mom did not inform anyone of this to as she did not want impose on anyone. The landlord respectfully requested to not sign a new lease and she is left with the past due rent and fees associated with the past due rent. My mom lost everything she had.
My mom is currently in the hospital with an infection in her body, a severe UTI, and a broken right foot in two places. We are currently in the process of obtaining a rehab/long term care facility for her.
As her family, we are asking for any help with clearing up the past due rent/fees, rehab/long term care, medical necessities (as insurance does not cover everything), clothing, and help in restoring her faith and hope.
