Hi, my name is Dora. I would never think of doing this because I never ask for help, but I would do anything for my dog Toro. He is our light and happiness amid a childless home. Our beloved Toro, whom we adopted when he was three months old while living in Colombia, South America, needs emergency surgery. When it was time to return home to the U.S. Toro endured a treacherous flight to America, hoping for a better life, and he has been with us through thick and thin. Now, in a life-and-death situation, Toro needs surgery. Without this life-saving surgery, we will forever lose him. My husband and I already depleted our savings, paying an initial deposit to have Toro treated right away. Our family has helped as well. However, we need $10,000 to cover all the costs associated with surgery, medication, painkillers, etc. Unfortunately, the veterinary hospital does not accept payment plans, requesting the money upfront before they will save Toro.
What happened-
At 3 am Toro started throwing up nonstop and he was also trying to go to the bathroom. Throughout the night he kept crying. By early morning he was throwing up and then just laid on the grass, not moving. We took him to Garden State Veterinary Hospital - the only one open at 6 a.m. The doctor told us Toro has a perianal hernia near his colon which can allow his organs from his abdomen to fall through. This needs to be repaired to prevent the entrapment of an organ. If his bladder herniates, it becomes emergently life-threatening. The costs associated with Toro's surgery are between $10,000 - $20,000. Your generous donations will help us reach our goal and save our baby's life.
Update - While hospitalized Toro was treated with IV antibiotics, fluis and pain meds. He has become stable and more comfortable. In the four days that Toro stayed at the veterinary hospital, we paid $7,861 for Toro's care. Hopefully, once he begins eating and gains strength, the doctor will perform the surgery, which should be in a few days. A few days is an eternity for us, but we are hopeful that within that time frame and with your continued support, we will meet our goal of $10,000. We can't do this without your help. To those who have already donated - THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. Toro completes our family. We are so grateful to all the wonderful people who have reached out to us and appreciate your good wishes and generous donations. With your help, we will bring back our baby home soon.
