Hello everyone, my name is Cody Makowecki I come here hat in hand. As many of you know my dog Bailey was diagnosed as diabetic on November 13th of last year, since then she has had a whole slew of health issues. In January over the span of a week she started to lose her vision and has been learning to navigate the world without one of the senses she relied on for her whole life. At the beginning of February on a Sunday I woke up as I do everyday at 5am to feed her and give her her insulin, she was not herself, could not stand or keep balance, and could not open her eyes. I rushed her to the vet and she was diagnosed with a severe eye infection, and as a diabetic she does not really have the best ability to fight infections. Her left eye has been swelling and the vet was worried so we were referred to a specialist in Calgary, she went in and had multiple tests run and it was decided that on Thursday March 6th she will have surgery to remove her left eye as her retina is completely detached and if it continues to swell at the rate it is, it will cause many more problems. She will also be having surgery on her other eye to hopefully help her regain a decent amount of her vision in that eye.
The surgery is going to cost a little more than five thousand dollars, as well as she will have to regularly be taken back to the specialist in Calgary for follow ups to ensure that nothing is going wrong. We will have to her from Drumheller into Calgary for these appointments for the rest of her life.
Bailey is the light of my life, my best friend, and the best dog. I am doing the best I can to help her have the best life. I know in the current economic state of the world that me coming to ask for help seems silly, and know that I do not do it lightly but any little bit would help so greatly and I as well as Bailey would forever be grateful.
