To all considering my humble request for aid, I bid you greetings and salutations.
I am a disabled veteran, I served as a US Navy Corpsman attached to the 2nd Marine Division. My right leg is amputated above the knee, my left leg is paralyzed, I have no bladder or bowel control and I suffer from PTSD.
I am currently homeless. I have no family or friends within the state who can help me.
How I got this way is unfortunately a common occurrence amoung disabled veterans.
When I got out of the Navy in 2010 I was discharged with a separation pay of 50,000 dollars which has been completely exhausted over the years. August of 2020 I applied for disability through the VA. January of 2021 I was approved and began receiving money and medical benefits.
A few months later I was informed that because I received this separation payment the VA was going to recoup 100 percent of my monthly payment until it is repaid. They said by law they must recoup 100 percent. No less. I have been living in shelters every since. I tried HUD VASH, which is like section 8 for veterans, but I was told regardless of this money being garnished they still consider it pay. which means no home for me. I was denied for unemployment, SSI, & SSDI. I submitted hardship requests. I contacted my congressman. All to no avail.
I just need enough money to get into a place and take care of myself until I can once again receive money from the VA.
Thank you for your consideration.
