A Certain Logic of Expectations (Oxford photobook)
Donation protected
For the past five years, I have been working on a photobook entitled A Certain Logic of Expectations that proposes a counter-narrative of the British city of Oxford that resists the visual imperatives of its ancient university. The work explores the longstanding division between town and gown through a careful selection of spaces and objects. The visual narrative is loosely structured around the following thematic strands: notions of home and homelessness, the looming presence of Brexit, the conflicted local economy, and the diversity of the city’s neighborhoods. Concurrently, short texts describe my experience of the city, and my fascination with its history and myths. The work, which is the result of my practice-based doctoral thesis at the Ruskin School of Art, challenges an easy judgment on Oxford and its established narratives of tradition, influence, and power. Below are the cover and a couple of spreads to give you an idea of the work.
