Carlos' Road to Recovery

My name is Victoria; I’m reaching out to our friends and family to ask for help for my dad Carlos Martinez. My dad suffered a much unexpected acute ischemic stroke on August 24, 2022. He was an avid golfer with no health issues. My dad is a great person, a true friend, and would do anything for his family, friends, and Pizza Hut team. He took his job to heart and dedicated everything to being a store manager for Pizza Hut.

Carlos spent two weeks in ICU; My mom was the only one able to be there with him because he was COVID positive with a collapsed lung. After spending 2 ½ weeks in rehab, he’s finally home and attending outpatient rehab. He has hemiplegia and hemiparesis on his right side and requires supervision. He struggles to communicate due to the Aphasia caused by the stroke. He is a warrior and fighting to get better every day.

As if the stress and anxiety of this current situation aren’t bad enough – there is added stress with regards to Carlos (my dad) will no longer receive a paycheck, so every single penny spent on treatment, rehab, care, medications, and more will be paid by my mom who as of now is still on Family Medical Leave. But needs to return to work ASAP to continue working. There’s no telling how exactly the financial ramifications will be, but we’re expecting hundreds of thousands in medical bills.
