Urgent Help Needed to Avoid Eviction
Donation protected
Hi everyone, I’m Danica Uskert, a disabled, mixed-race interdisciplinary artist and writer based in Los Angeles. You might know me from my films, video art, articles, graphic novel with trans illustrator Annie Mok, the work I funded for a popular hyperpop artist, or…the last time I was homeless in LA. Unfortunately, I’m about to be on the street again, and this time, the stakes are higher—because if I’m evicted, my partner and our beloved pets Elvira and Magic lose their homes too.
After being harassed out of my job in June following a miscarriage, I’ve accumulated significant work-related medical debt, both from being forced to work through the loss of that pregnancy (and others throughout the last year) and from lingering damage caused by chemical exposure at work. My severance did not cover even a fraction of these bills, and the company for which I worked never once followed through on worker’s comp, leaving me broke with permanent damage to my lungs and uterus. Despite dozens of interviews and ongoing job searches, I have not yet secured new employment. To complicate matters, my partner was also pushed out of his job by a vindictive coworker a month ago.
We need your support to avoid eviction and manage the upcoming month’s rent while we work towards financial stability and a sustainable living situation. This is our final month on this lease, and we are contractually obligated to see it through. We have spoken to building management about our situation, in hopes of leaving LA at the end of August, and were told that we were going to be billed regardless. If we cannot pay our rent in full by Sept. 5th, they will begin the eviction process, and add related fees on top of the rent owed.
Please help us through this challenging time. Thank you so much.
