UPDATE-After consultation with the oral surgeon the total cost for implants will be $4,000.00, so the total needed is only $8090.00! ($4,000.00 for the implants, $4,090.00 for the dentures).  We want to thank you for helping and now only need about $2,000.00 more.  She is scheduled for surgery for the implants on Monday,  April 5th and, after the surgeon gives the ok, she can be fitted for dentures.

Thank you again!!

Clarice is my mom and is in need of new fixed dentures.  She first got dentures in 2011 about a year after my dad died.  She is able to wear her upper dentures with a lot of dental adhesive but has never been able to wear her lowers because they were painful and would come out, even with adhesive.  Mom has an income of about $1,300.00 a month and is on medicaid/medicare for health insurance, neither of which covers dentures.  She can't afford to buy them on her own so I'm trying to raise the money for her.

She has been unable to eat a normal diet for years now.   She longs to eat just a simple sandwich or hamburger or pizza but can't because she can't bite or chew them.  When we have her over for family gatherings, I have to cut up various foods for her into small pieces and even then she struggles to eat them.

Clarice has numerous other health issues.  She has wet macular degeneration and is completely blind in her right eye.  Her left eye has limited peripheral vision and she gets eye injections every ten weeks to maintain her sight.  She broke her right ankle 15 years ago, requires an ankle brace, and is unable to walk without a cane or walker.  Because of her loss of sight and limited mobility she can not drive and had to resign her drivers licence.

She also has hypogammaglobulinemia, which is a problem with the immune system that prevents it from making enough antibodies, and has to get IV infusions to help with this every three weeks.  Mom has COPD and is on three liters of oxygen.  Lastly she is extremely hard of hearing and wears hearing aids to help with that.

I really don't know how she stays so positive with all the issues she has.

She was so excited about the potential for new dentures when we went to a highly recommended local dentist.    After a thorough examination he let her know that he was confident he could help her with well fitting dentures.  She was over the moon upon hearing that.

Then he explained that because of limited bone density in her lower jaw she world require dental implants to fit her lower dentures appropriately.  He recommended an oral surgeon and said that once that procedure was completed, he would fit her for dentures.  These lower dentures would "snap" into the implants and provide her with dentures that would be totally secure even without adhesive.  His estimate for both upper and lower dentures, and with the modifications to the lowers to snap in to the implants were $4,090.00.  We've not seen the oral surgeon yet (her appointment isn't until March) so we don't have their estimate yet.  However, the dentist she saw estimated between $4,000.00 and $5,000.00 per implant.

Her heart sunk at hearing that and she was holding back tears because her dream of being able to eat regular food again was lost.  She had such a look of disappointment on her face my heart just broke.

I was going to wait until after she saw the oral surgeon to get an exact amount before starting a gofundme.  But this morning she asked that I call the oral surgeon and get an estimate because, as she said, "if it's $4,000.00 or more, there's no point in me seeing them because I can't just afford it."   I didn't have the heart to tell her that their estimate would probably be what the dentist had told us.  I can't wait until we see the oral surgeon for an oficial so I'm estimating a cost of $12,000.00.  $4,090.00 for the actual dentures and $4,000 each for the implants.

Clarice as a generous, loving person.  She would never ask for anything like this, and would clobber me if she knew I started a gofundme campaign for her!   If you are able to help my mom with new dentures, I would be so grateful!

Thank you.
