Dana’s Road to Recovery

Hi, my name is Ashley.

On March 1st, my father in law Dana, was in a motorcycle accident. Fortunately he was wearing his helmet. He suffered his right arm being broken in 8 places, a broken pelvis, a severe perineal injury that has resulted in using a colostomy bag for the rest of his life, a concussion, a broken eye socket, 3 fractured ribs, and nerve damage in his left leg. He had a continuous heart attack the first 4 days he was at the hospital.

He was in the Trauma Intensive Care Unit until the 16th. Things were looking very grim after the accident but he has beaten all odds, and we believe it is because of his strength and the positive healing energy everyone has given thus far.

Dana’s 9th surgery is scheduled for today, March 25th. There are weekly surgeries scheduled for the entirety of his hospital stay. Surgeries are to help repair the damage resulting from his perineal tear and damage done to his insides. The doctors were able to put his pelvis back where it belongs but he has metal pieces keeping everything in position.

He will be staying at the hospital until the end of May or possibly June. I created this gofundme to assist in his healing process. As of right now he cannot move his left foot, but the doctors are hopeful he will be able to walk again in the future. In the meantime, we will need to prepare his home to be wheelchair accessible (along with anything to help move him in and out of bed and around the house). His wife, Donna, will also need a wheelchair accessible/handicapped vehicle to be able to take him to his appointments. There is going to be a lot of therapy required. His future is going to look different but we are trying to make the adjustment easier. The hospital bills are already piling up and he still has a couple months to go for his hospital stay.
