Devon's Traumatic Brain Injury

Donation protected
Devon, a once vibrant, energetic and playful 7 year old 1st grade boy, fell while playing outside during recess in November 2013. As a result of his fall, Devon cracked his skull in 3 pieces and suffered a serious traumatic brain injury. He underwent emergency surgery to restructure and stabilize his skull. Neurosurgeons placed strong restrictions on his activity, since any further injury during this recovery period could result in permanent brain damage.

At the time of his injury, he was given a 3 month recovery period. However, Devon's doctors now think it may take up to 12 months before his skull has successfully fused back together. Given enough time, he should make a full recovery. But for now, Devon must be closely monitored at home and at school. He is only able to attend school for 2.5 hours a day. Devon now suffers from extreme anxiety, fearful of leaving his mother's side and terrified of experiencing another injury.  Because of his need for continued close care and multiple doctors' appointments, Devon's mother has been unable to return to work.

Devon's mother April, a single mom to 3 boys, receives no child support. She has survived these past few months by relying on her savings and help from family...but the savings have run out and family is no longer able to offer financial support.  The extended recovery period has placed April in a grave financial state and she's at risk of losing her home. The family does receive food stamps and the boys do have health insurance.  However, none of this pays the mortgage or the bills!

This is a case of a family on the verge of falling through the cracks -- and you can make a difference!  The next few months are crucial from every perspective. Please consider giving what you can to help April and her boys get through this difficult time. Help is needed to bridge the gap until they can get back on their feet.

April wants desperately for life to return to "normal," for her son to heal and return to school full time so that she can return to work full time.  If you are able to help out with a donation or by sharing this on Facebook, we truly appreciate the support!
