This GFM account was started on behalf of my amazing mom, Susan (Susie) Crosby Slovak. On January 10 my mom’s world turned upside down. She had a rapid onset of paralysis that started in her feet and moved up into her stomach, all extremities, chest and face. She was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Dallas only to find out that she had a very rare syndrome known as GUILLAN Barre Syndrome. Seven weeks into the diagnosis she became completely paralyzed with minimal movement in her shoulders and neck. This disease is brought on by the flu vaccine, use of certain antibiotics, intestinal infections and upper respiratory infections. In my mom’s case we do not have a specific cause. On January 21 my mom had to be intimated as she could no longer breathe on her own. She is still on life support ( tracheostomy) a ventilator is breathing for her thru a whole in her neck. She was recently moved from a hospital in Dallas to a facility in Tomball so that we could care for and be by her side day and night. The ambulance ride was an out of pocket expense, not covered by insurance that cost $2400. On April 4 she will no longer be employed and her insurance coverage will stop! We are looking into other alternatives for insurance coverage but at this time plan to pick up Cobra. The doctor say that with GUILLAN Barre, when it comes on rapidly, recovery takes much longer for the syndrome symptoms to dissipate. We’ve been told that her care could be up to if not longer than 2 years and even at that point she will have residual side effects. We are in for a long road to recovery with an extreme amount of medical bills. Funding will be used to help with mom’s medical expenses.
My mom is a strong, independent woman and right now she is at the mercy of the doctors, nurses and her family as well as this horrible syndrome. She needs our help and continued pray! Thank you all!!
From Gloria: BFND. Ok bobcat nation let’s help Susie and her family. I am also collecting gift cards at my house.
