SUPPORT BEDRIDDEN SENIOR OVERCOME DENTAL CRISIS

Hello, my name is Amy. I’m a 73-year-old disabled, bedridden senior living alone in San Diego. Throughout my life, I’ve been deeply purpose-driven, committed to uplifting those facing the hardest circumstances. Now, I find myself in great need and am humbly asking for your help.

For the past five years, I’ve endured unimaginable suffering and isolation due to rare and complex medical conditions. I live with Tarlov cysts—painful, spinal fluid–filled sacs on my sacral nerves—and pudendal neuralgia, a debilitating nerve disorder that causes relentless burning, stabbing pelvic pain.

I cannot sit—not even for a moment—without excruciating pain. Walking and standing are unbearable beyond a few minutes. I require gurney transportation to all my medical/dental appointments.

Because of the strong medications I’ve needed to manage pain, my protective saliva has dried up, leading to widespread dental breakdown and decay. I’ve been turned away from multiple dental offices because. I’m unable to sit in a normal dental chair or tolerate long periods of treatment while awake.

This untenable situation has led to my doctors referring me to having this extensive dental work done in a hospital setting under general anesthesia as a special needs patient. Anesthesia alone costs $16k —all out of pocket. Unfortunately, I am not a candidate for dentures due to extreme bone loss and my complex medical conditions.

The goal is to save as many teeth as possible. My dental team says I’ll need a combination of full mouth restorations, bone grafts, extractions, a bridge, gum gingivectomy, and possibly a few implants, depending on whether I can keep a fractured molar.

The total cost for my treatment plan is $45,518. This includes two separate hospital visits—$23,471 for the first session and $22,047 for the second. Insurance will not cover this, and living alone on Social Security, I have no way to meet this overwhelming financial burden on my own.

This treatment is not cosmetic—it is essential and medically necessary. It will allow me to eat without pain, prevent life-threatening infections, and restore what little quality of life I have left.

For à year now , I’ve been unable to find a Medi-Cal dentist, even with the assistance of a Denti-Cal case manager, who can perform the complex, multi-phase procedures under general anesthesia. I don’t have any other alternative but to work with a team of dental specialists in a hospital surgery center who offer sedation, but they are completely out-of-pocket and don’t take my insurance. I’m in pain and out of options.

This GoFundMe is my only hope, not just to repair my teeth; this is about ever being able to take a walk outside or live a normal life again.

My doctors have told me I can’t move forward with critical medical treatment for my severe, rare nerve conditions until these dental issues are resolved, as systemic infection poses such a risk.

I’m caught in a vicious cycle—my health is further deteriorating while the care I need remains just out of reach.
