Help Kenny Barnes Continue His Mission of Service
For 25 years, Kenny Barnes has dedicated his life to helping families, young people, and communities affected by violence. In September 2001, Kenny’s son, Kenneth Barnes Jr., was murdered in Washington, D.C.
That tragedy changed his life and inspired him to dedicate himself to helping prevent other families from experiencing the same pain and loss.
In June 2002, he founded ROOT (Reaching Out to Others Together), a nonprofit organization focused on supporting individuals, strengthening families, and building safer communities. He continued this work until 2018, when he suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke that left him unable to work for nearly three years and ultimately led to his retirement. The loss of his ability to work left him without a regular income, and his financial resources were eventually depleted.
Despite these challenges, Kenny has continued serving his community as a volunteer through organizations and initiatives such as Time4Us2GetInvolved and the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C., supporting youth, community outreach, violence prevention, and efforts to promote peace.
At 81, Kenny is asking for support to continue the work he has dedicated the past 25 years of his life to—serving his community, supporting young people, and turning tragedy into purpose.
Please support and share his campaign. Every contribution makes a difference.
