Hello, My name is Devon Kavanagh and I am the Co-writer and D.O.P(Director Of Photography) for a student short film called Honeywell (The Sweetest Town In America) Along side my Friend Jacob Martens-Ruel (Co-writer & Director). We are two boys from the prairies that met in film school in Vancouver BC and together Jacob and I are creating a 80's inspired Horror film, reaching out for funding to help make our dream short film come true!

What is the story of Honeywell About?

Logline:

When a traffic stop turns deadly and her partner is killed, Carrie chases the killer into a nearby house only to have him plead for forgiveness. Realizing the man is possessed, Carrie must defend herself and not lose her cool while trying to exorcized the man's demons

Short Synopsis:

Honeywell is a story of justice, and confronting the unknown. Our main character (Carrie) is a state trooper who is dealing with the loss of her sister, but during a traffic stop in the hunt for a group of serial killers her partner is killed and the sadness and anger she had about her sister's death comes back to the forefront of her mind. Now she must hunt down the man who killed her partner and maybe even her sister, but is he even a man?

Long Synopsis:

Carrie and her partner (Myers) pull over a car in a traffic stop in the search for a gang of serial killers. Officer Myers takes lead in the traffic stop and gets shot. As he dies Carrie must make the choice of chasing after the killer (Lance) or save her partner. She makes the choice to chase the killer and finds out that everything is not as it seems when the killer seems to have the ability to disappear and appear out of nowhere. The killer appears close to Carrie and knocks her gun out of her hand before before disappearing again.

Without a weapon Carrie emerges from the woods onto a residential street of a small town. She walks towards a house that has a for sale sign in the yard. After seeing a strange glowing from the side of the house she enters it realizing the glowing is from a neon bar light in the basement. As she walks down the basement stairs she hears crying. After realizing the sound is from the killer she tries to make an arrest, but the man pleads his innocence and blames something inside him for the crimes.

All of a sudden light flashes and the man’s eyes go black. He attacks Carrie and tries to hurt her. He gives Carrie information about her sister’s death that only the killer could have known. Broken and angry Carrie fights back and eventually exorcizes the demon. Lance’s body collapses and all is silent. Suddenly Carrie’s eyes go black.

Why is Honeywell important to us? and why we think it needs to be made.

Even though we were province neighbors, We met on the west coast and became good friends quickly. Since almost the very start of the year our visions aligned, each of us bring something unique to the table.

Since we started working together our class has been begging for us to work together on a bigger project to see what we could pull off. Honeywell (The Sweetest Town In America) is that project, A project heavily inspired by popular 80’s horror that has been missing in the world of cinema for awhile. Our joint love for horror films will bleed through this project

You don’t get to see two boys from the prairies work on a project together often, this is the chance for it to happen

We believe that Honeywell (The Sweetest Town In America) is an important story to tell because we feel that entertaining films with substance and creativity are lacking in the industry at the moment. We have many indie think pieces which are amazing films, and we have action, and adventure films that are full of entertaining visuals, but at the end of the day we believe there needs to be a happy medium within cinema.

What do we plan to do with the funds we raise.

The funds that Jacob and I are able to raise will all go towards the making of this film. That includes using the funds for Equipment (Such as Camera Gear, Lighting, generator, ETC) Securing our locations (Forest, Roadside, House) Transportation of gear and finally meals for the cast and crew.

We appreciate any donations that are given to us and promise that we will create the best short Horror film we can

Thank you
