Archaeology in Belize

The funding for this project will help send Jennifer Rose Hasso  on an archaeological expedition to Lamanai, Belize. This project is important to me as scholar of history. I have a background in archaeology, which is fundamentally incorporated into my teaching methods of art history and material culture. This project will help to contextualize written history by providing a firsthand account of material culture, and to record the lives of those who often have no voice within the written narrative.

Lamanai is located in inland Belize and was originally occupied by the Maya, then later by the Spanish, British, African populations, and buccaneers. This desirable location is near a river, which provided sustenance and transportation. This region also has a diverse history, which will be explored during a two week field season in July of 2014. The funds earned through this site will provide me with transportation and lodging. If you believe in this project or simply believe in me, I thank you for your love, support, and encouragement!

"To archeologists, the human past is owned by no one. It represents the cultural heritage of everyone who has ever lived on Earth or will live on it in the future. Archaeology puts all human societies on an equal footing."  - Brian Fagan
