On March 3rd, a long-time resident of Mayapura Dham, Anuttra dasi was riding her scooter with her small, 8-year-old daughter, Jayanti Radha. The scooter’s filter burst into flames catching their clothes on fire. They both incurred severe burns. Eight-year-old Jayanti has critical burns over 60-70% of her body and has been fighting for her life. Immediate assistance is needed to assure they receive the best quality care and healing.
After catching on fire, the two jumped off the scooter as the fire rapidly spread. Locals attempted to put out their fiery clothes, and eventually, the flames were extinguished by a garden hose from a nearby residence. Anuttra incurred severe burns on her hands and lower rear torso, and Jayanti suffered acute burns throughout her body. They were immediately taken on scooters to the Community Hospital.
With burns covering most of her body, young Jayanti Radha has been fighting for her life. Anuttra dasi was immediately admitted to the local hospital, but that hospital was not equipped to treat the child's life-threatening condition. She endured a five-hour ambulance ride to a specialty burn center for children in Kolkata without her mother, who was not allowed to accompany her.
Due to the critical burns on her lower back and hands, Anuttra cannot lay on her back, only on her stomach and for short times on her side. She is excessively uncomfortable, must be spoon-fed, and can hardly sleep due to intense pain and the anguish of her 8-year-old daughter’s condition. This devoted mother will be unable to care for herself or her daughter without assistance, for a long time. Funds are needed for their immediate and long-term treatment and rehabilitation.
A team of Mayapura ladies working together is assuring someone constantly accompanies Jayanti Radha providing support. It was reported today that her life is still at risk and she remains under intensive critical care. There is constant wound care, changing of dressings, and pain management. Her temperature is always dangerously high, and hopsital bills are approximately $ 1000 per day. And, once she is past this precarious time, it will be a long road toward recovery. Please help.
8-year-old Jayanti Radha is a dhambasi, having been born in Mayapura. She attends The Little Vaisnava School. Mother Anuttara Dasi is a disciple of Jayapataka Swami, originally from Estonia. She has lived in Sri Dham Mayapura for over 10 years and is known for her deeply devotional, enchanting kirtans.
This critical time is only the beginning of the healing and medical journey ahead. These soft-hearted Vaisnavas are facing many months with mother Anuttra not being able to earn. Constant intensive caregiver attention will be mandatory, especially for young Jayanti due to her severe condition. There will be wound management, plastic surgery, skin grafts etc. These are not simple procedures procured at rural West Bengal hospitals. We can help provide the best possible outcome for these rare Vaisnavas to minimize the short-and long-term effects of serious physical trauma.
Quality hospital stays and specialized treatments are expensive, even in India. Bills are steadily mounting. The Kolkata Burn Center would not even see the suffering child without a $1000 up-front fee, and daily costs for highly specialized burn treatment of a child are accumulating.
Let's please Srila Prabhupada by banding together in facilitating the best available care and recovery for our injured and traumatized, vulnerable family members. All funds will be utilized toward these means.
Please send prayers, love, blessings, and give whatever you can. You are much appreciated.
Thank you, and if you so desire, please share this on social media.
