Leo is a Korean Dog Meat Rescue. As a young puppy he was blowtorched and spent his first months in a recovery burn unit. That's when I fell in love with him and knew we had to save him. Leo made a full recovery, surviving burns and parvo and lack of oxygen during his torture. We are so thankful he was saved. A little over a year ago Leo arrived in Montana, where he met his brother and BFF, Gibson. These two are a bonded, goofy pair. Sadly about 6 months ago Leo's back leg started to bother him. Once we took him in we found out he has luxating patellas. Because he wasn't fully grown, we tried to wait until May to have the surgery done but, his leg got so bad he refused to use it. A mesh procedure relying on scar tissue was preformed. The surgery seemed to be a success and leo was given a clean bill of health to be a happy puppy again. On Wednesday Gibson, Leo and I were on a trail run. We got to the top of the mountain and I could tell his leg was starting to hurt him. I called the vet on the mountain and rushed him into the vet. While on our run he managed to rip through his scar tissue and separate the mesh. This caused his patella to completely separate, pulling his muscles and creating a gap between his upper and lower leg. On June 12th a specialist is being brought in to perform his surgery. They will be drilling into his cartilage to create a socket for his patella to sit in. The next step is to secure his patella and upper and lower leg with pins. Next a mesh will be placed around his muscles and bones to help strengthen and tighten the muscles that were pulled. The estimate for this is $5k. Insert stomach cramps. Between drugs, x-rays, bringing in a specialist, the surgery and recovery this is all adding up quickly. Especially since I'm almost done paying off the $2500 surgery he got 6 months ago. Please help us spread the word so we can get Leo fixed and back to normal. This little survivor has been through enough and really deserves a normal puppy life now. Thank you for taking the time to read this!
