My name is Galeesa Murph. I am a 2012 graduate of KIPP Delta Collegiate in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas. In 2016, I will graduate from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
Just recently, I applied to study abroad in Wellington, New Zealand. I chose to apply because my major at Vanderbilt is International Leadership and Development. I'd decided that it was time to actually immerse myself in different international cultures to gain a better understanding of them. After doing research on my own, I specifically chose New Zealand so that I can learn more about its parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy form of government, as well as learn more about international development and Maori culture. After conversing with a classmate who had recently returned from New Zealand, I also learned that New Zealanders tend to move more slowly than our full-speed American pace, which gives them more time to be welcoming and appreciate all that is around them. I am excited to learn more about New Zealand, while also acclimating myself to the culture. While in Wellington, New Zealand, I plan to travel to one of New Zealand's largest cities, Auckland, in hopes of exploring the many cultures that preside in that one city.
While Vanderbilt financial aid covers the majority of the costs, I am still short on funding. I need assistance to purchase my airplane ticket and to cover the cost of food while in New Zealand. Studying abroad, particularly in New Zealand, has always been my goal. Will you help me reach my goal of studying abroad?
Have a blessed day,
