Hey guys. This is John Cranman. You may know me from when I was Video Creator at Pathway Church. Or you may know me from my freelance documentary and wedding work in the area.
Since being laid off last year, the trajectory of my family’s life has shifted quite a bit. It hasn’t been easy. We thought that this job or that job would work out, or that we were supposed to move. But none of that happened. As time passed, other opportunities began to take shape that gave us the clarity and direction we needed. And this caused us to take a huge leap of faith that’s been both awesome and scary.
Part of that leap was to start a video and photography company. But the other thing, and this is what I’m really excited about, is that I’ve felt led towards creating my own faith based- film content. I’ve always loved movies and visual media. I’ve been creating videos and film for awhile now and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. But always in the back of my mind, I had these stories floating around that I wanted to tell - these ideas that I had in my own head. And this desire has never gone away, it’s only grown. And now I feel the time has come to finally do something with it.
Over the last year I’ve been working on an original story that I’ve written myself that I’ve begun to turn into a short film. I am super excited about this film and feel that you guys will be most intrigued by it when its finished. The film is called “The Promise”. It’s about an old Florida couple who come to the end of their rope but then something very unusual happens. I can’t say too much, otherwise I’ll spoil it. So I’ll leave it at that. But trust me, so far everyone I’ve shown the script to has been very excited about this film. You’re not going to want to miss it. Needless to say, this film is first in line on this new venture we are on.
Since stepping out with this project, many things have already fallen into place. Through some awesome friends and contacts, I was able to secure all the film locations, I was also able to get a very talented DP from Tampa, and there have also been many great people who have agreed to volunteer on set, which is going to help tremendously. But to get the rest of this project off the ground, there are still some things missing. And this is why I am coming to you. With a project like this - as with anything - there are costs involved. Costs like equipment rental, paying my lead actors, food on set, hotels, and other misc. expenses. Yes, money makes the world go round. But I want say up front, that with this project - I am not making a dime. For me, this is done purely for passion. So I am asking you, the people who know me, my family, and know my work, or really anyone who believes enough in this sort of thing. Please contribute financially and help me put this together. Help me make what I believe is truly a unique story that I think will resonate with people as they watch it.
There’s a quote by Andy Crouch: The only way to change culture is to create more of it. And that’s what the arts do. They change culture. And Film does that. It’s important for me to use the skills that I have to influence, rather than just be a consumer. And I think this film will be part of that.
If any of you out there believe in what I am doing and would like to support this project, please donate to the go-fund me in the link included. Any amount you give will help, but the more you give the better. It will help get this thing started that much quicker. You will be sure to get a copy of this film, and a thank you with your name in the credits. Not only that, but in some ways you will become part of my team. Help me get this project off the ground.
Thank you!
