Wheels for Dave
Donation protected
A little over a year ago, David Zemek, our Dad and the best man we know, suffered a tragic accident whilst doing what he loved most; body surfing on an otherwise perfect morning at Miami beach with his family. After the profound shock of the incident, where he drowned, was resuscitated, then woke up from a comma only to realise he is a partial quadriplegic, he had since made tremendous progress adjusting to life as a quad (an enormous effort for such an active and fit man); providing inspiration to all who have had the pleasure of his company.
However in spite of his fortitude and determination he has since encountered even more challenges including suffering three successive strokes, which have cruelly removed the use of the remainder of the left side of his body. After 12 months in hospital Dad is now back at home adjusting to his new 'new normal', which involves complete reliance on family (my Mum) and the extraordinary group of people caring for him. Nevertheless Dad's inspiring attitude continues to shine through in spite of the adversity he has suffered, taking pleasure in the company of his many friends and family and enjoying every moment by the beach.
We are now organising a luncheon to give the many people in Dad's life the opportunity show their support and perhaps provide a small donation to help fund his team of carers and enhance his freedom of mobility by purchasing a wheel chair capable vehicle.
