Dawn's Breast Cancer Fight

Donation protected
On January 30, 2018, I found out that my mother, Dawn, was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. This came as a complete shock to us and we are still learning more about her diagnosis and treatment plan. That being said, we definitely have a challenging and long road ahead of us.

My mom has worked as a waitress for 12 years to support us, and has been there for me through many obstacles as well as many triumphs. She single-handedly raised me to live my most authentic life. She is my rock and best friend. With our financial options exhausted, I feel this may be the only way I can return the favor and give back to her.

The emotional and financial burden of surviving breast cancer is a challenge (to say the least). She is faced with being out of work for the next several months, at a minimum. I am freshly out of college, starting from the ground up in my career field, while also doing everything in my power to help her pay the bills and get where she needs to go. It is just the two of us and my car is our only means of transportation. We have been a team for the last 10 years and I know that I will not be able to carry our cost of living and her medical expenses on my own. Only one week into her diagnosis, we have $8k in medical bills, from one consultation and one visit with many more on the horizon. My mom is the most fun-loving, caring, funny, bravest, self-less, hard-working & literally greatest human that I know and she deserves and needs our love and support now more than ever.

We have had to cancel several appointments because we are unable to come up with the required up-front fees. This is where you and this fund come in. The medical bills will continue to add up and I am reaching out to my amazing and supportive network of family and friends to help my mom. All donations are greatly appreciated and will help us kick cancer’s ass!

**UPDATE** As of July 7, 2018, my mom has continued working through her chemotherapy and has three more treatments to go. She will be having a single mastectomy in August, and the money donated will be used to support her during her recovery time while she will be unable to work. Thank you everyone for your support!

***UPDATE from Dawn*** 8/21/2018

Well its been a rollercoaster ride since getting diagnosed. My surgery has been postponed due to the breast cancer spreading to my brain. It is no longer a curable situation, but it is a treatable one. I finished twelve chemo treatments for the breast and completed ten radiation treatments for the brain. It has been a journey filled with love, prayers, and meeting many people affected by cancer. I am on probably at least one hundred prayer lists! I have had great support from my family, friends, coworkers, and customers at work. Having the Big C has made me slow down a little. But also has made me appreciate life to its fullest. Taking a little more me time and just appreciating the little things. Do not take tomorrow for granted. Hug your family and friends and spread your love. Thanks to everyone who has supported Jesse and I during this time. We appreciate EVERYTHING!!

***UPDATE 9/3/2018
Mom's been in the hospital for over a week with pneumonia and now they're trying to figure out why her breathing is so bad. The cancer has metastasized further into her bones and liver. I am extremely scared that we're running out of time. She is out of work indefinitely. Everyone has been very supportive, but I just want her to get better and to be able to take her on at least one last vacation... a vacation that's been ten years too late. Of course, I should probably me more worried about the financial difficulties we are currently facing, but I'm more concerned about making the time I have with her count. Her doctor and myself are both looking into clinical trials to prolong her life, and she is on a chemotherapy pill. We are not giving up hope, because she is a total badass and if anyone can get through this, it's her. Thank you everyone that has helped out so far, it means the world.

****UPDATE 9/7/2018
Unfortunately, this GoFundMe is no longer to support my mom during her recovery as the cancer took a turn for the worst on Tuesday and she passed at Franklin Square Hospital at about 7:30 pm. I was with her the whole time and reassured her it would be okay. She fought up to the very last breath and I am just so grateful that a woman as great as she blessed mine and so many others lives and time on this Earth. My mom was the strongest lady I'll ever know. This GoFundMe will now be used to pay for the final expenses. Her memorial will take place this Thursday at Silver Spring Mining Company in Perry Hall, where she worked and where she spent so much of her time and most importantly where she was so loved. I invite anyone and everyone who knew my mom or has been touched by this story to come out and celebrate her life. Thank you everyone who has supported us during the most difficult time of our lives.
