My friends,
Laurie Cummings is one of my oldest and dearest friends. She is a teacher in the Atlanta Public School system, teaching elementary students at a Title 1 ESL (English is second language) school in Sandy Spring. She is a devoted teacher, loves her students, and this year was voted Teacher of the Year by her fellow colleagues.
Laurie recently reached out to me to see if I could help sponsor three specific students for the Strong Rock summer camp. In the attachment, you can see her hopeful request. These children, as with many of her students, live in a single family home, with parents working two or more jobs to try to make ends meet. In the summer, the kids are usually home on their own. Summer camp is not, for the most part, an option.
Sarah and I have agreed to sponsor a child for one of their summer sessions and we hope, with your help, we can do more. While this started out to help one family in need, I would like to expand upon the idea, as there are so many other kids who would otherwise not be able to attend due to financial constraints. Hence we are now seeking help in funding the June and July sessions for as many as 10 children.
Please consider helping out if you have the ability. This is an opportunity to help specific children with a specific need. No doubt it will make a difference in their lives.
Donations in any amount are welcome. I will be withdrawing the funds and sending a check the the camp administrator. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
Kindest regards,
Scott Ellyson
